Fresh Hawaiian Poke Recipe
Although you may not be able to bring the warm breeze or multi-colored Maui sunset home for dinner tonight, you can bring a little aloha spirit to the table with this delicious Hawaiian staple. From the kitchen of our very own Guest Experience Manager at Destination Residences Hawaii, Serkan, shares with you his favorite poke recipe.
Serkan's Tuna Poke
Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons dried wakame
- 1 teaspoon dried hijiki
- 12 ounces raw sashimi tuna, cut into ¼ inch cubes
- 3 ounces sweet Maui onion, diced
- 1 scallion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon white or black sesame seeds (I use both)
- 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon honey, or to taste
- Crushed red pepper to taste
- Kosher salt to taste
Directions
Place wakame and hijiki (seaweed) in separate bowls. Cover with boiling water and rest until tender- five minutes should be enough. Drain and press with paper towels, rough chop into a large bowl. Add all other ingredients and gently mix, then rest for five minutes at room temperature. Can be served on top of steamed rice or add avocados and mixed greens for salad. Serves four to six and is perfect for an appetizer.
